SDG 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries

What New York City is Doing

  • ActionNYC

Launched by the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs in 2015, ActionNYC helps immigrant New Yorkers reach a more stable immigration status by connecting them with free legal screenings and representation.

  • NYC Free Tax Prep

Also in 2015, NYC Consumer and Worker Protection made free tax preparation services more available to New Yorkers through the NYC Free Tax Prep program, saving city residents $136 million in tax preparation fees.

  • NYC Internet Master Plan

The pandemic laid bare how differences in internet connection can reinforce existing inequalities. In response, the Mayor’s Office of the Chief Technology Officer laid out a roadmap to make internet access universal in the city.

  • NYC Career Pathways

This program launched in 2014 with the goal of coordinating and strengthening the city’s career development efforts, investing in training in order to give low-skill New Yorkers the tools they need to get on a career path.
