Culture and Connections
Our new Culture and Connections program series invites you to explore the rich intersections between global culture, history, and the ideas that shape our world — through guided experiences in museums, landmark exhibitions, and cultural spaces in New York City. More than traditional tours, these events are curated to illuminate how art, history, and cultural heritage connect to the values and work of the United Nations: from human dignity and diversity to peace, justice, and shared humanity. Culture and Connections brings global themes into immediate, tangible form, encouraging members and the broader community to reflect, engage, and connect with the world through shared cultural experiences.
In our inaugural event, UNA-NYC members enjoyed an exclusive summer evening tour of The Met, where we explored artworks spanning centuries and continents, drawing connections between artistic expression and universal themes such as identity, conflict, and resilience. Guided by expert discernment, participants not only deepened their appreciation for masterpieces but also considered how visual culture reflects and influences global narratives. Similarly, our evening at Anne Frank the Exhibition offered a poignant encounter with history — bringing participants face-to-face with voices and stories that continue to inspire reflection on human rights, tolerance, and the enduring impact of individual courage in the face of oppression.
Our upcoming visit to the Neue Galerie, centered on Austrian and German art, further underscores the intent of our program series to engage with cultural treasures that speak to international heritage and shared memory. As we trace the complexities of early 20th-century society, it’s the kind of event that fosters dialogue on how cultural artifacts help us understand historical forces and the human experience.
As our Culture and Connections grow, UNA-NYC envisions programming that will not only invite discovery and curiosity but also nurture community dialogue — bringing people together to explore the world’s cultures as a foundation for empathy, understanding, and global citizenship. We hope to see you there!
