Maria Ressa Wins 2021 Nobel Peace Prize

Maria Ressa

Today we congratulate Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov on winning the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize

We interviewed Maria Ressa earlier this year in our FilmTalk series, on the occasion of screening her appearance as the subject of A Thousand Cuts.

The Nobel committee awarded the Peace Price jointly to Ressa, and journalist Dmitry Muratov, "for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace." The chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Berit Reiss-Andersen, said the pair represented journalists who fight for the ideal of standing up to an "abuse of power, lies and war propaganda."
