Working toward the SDGs with strong partnerships

Partnerships are an essential part of achieving the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which “are a global call to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure the well-being of humanity.”

Ban Ki-moon, the Eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations, has highlighted that “these goals can only be met through multilateral and multisectoral collaboration. This is why SDG 17, which calls for sustainable development through partnerships, is one of the most important of them all.”

The United Nations Association of New York is proud to partner with a range of organizations to help New York and the world move toward achieving the SDGs, including businesses, UN agencies, and other civil society groups, whether for joint events and programs, fundraising, or other collaborations.

UNA-NYC has long maintained a special commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 8.7: to “eradicate forced labor, end modern slavery and human trafficking and secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labor.”

We’ve been proud to take our fight against modern slavery further through our partnership with Freedom United, the world’s largest anti-slavery community. Freedom United has been pushing for the wider ratification of the Forced Labour Protocol (P29) of the International Labour Organization (ILO)—the current gold standard in international anti-slavery legislation and an essential step in the path toward achieving SDG 8.7.

CUNY and UNA-NYC are pleased to announce their partnership to progress SDG 4: Quality Education. Our first program together will be a Career Event on April 15, for which 450 students have already registered.

Two highly qualified speakers, with years of experience working at the United Nations Human Resources Office and as an NGO representative to the UN, will provide CUNY students with exclusive information and insider tips about how to navigate the UN system and apply for UN jobs. They will also learn about NGO volunteer opportunities that help build the skills specifically needed to work at the UN.
