Culture and Connections | The Hispanic Society Museum & Library

UNA-NYC Members Event *
Culture and Connections | The Hispanic Society Museum & Library
Saturday | 21 November 2026 | 11 a.m.

This November, Culture and Connections heads to the Hispanic Society Museum & Library in Washington Heights, founded in 1904 by Archer Milton Huntington as the country's only museum and research library built entirely around the art and culture of Spain, Portugal, and Latin America. UNA-NYC Members will see Joaquín Sorolla's mural cycle Vision of Spain, painted for the building at Huntington's request, alongside work by Goya and Velázquez.

Our visit will also catch an early look at the Society's new exhibition, Mantilla: Fashion Unveiled, tracing the history of Spain's iconic lace veil from a sixteenth-century tradition into a modern statement of identity, through paintings, textiles, photography, and contemporary fashion. It's a close look at culture and heritage across the Spanish-speaking world in a single morning, the same kind of single-country immersion that shaped our visits to Neue Galerie and, before that, the Anne Frank exhibition.

About the Hispanic Society of America

The Hispanic Society of America was founded in 1904 by Archer Milton Huntington (1870-1955) with the object of establishing a free, public museum and reference library for the study of the art and culture of the Spain, Portugal, Latin America, and the Philippines. The collections of the Hispanic Society are unparalleled in their scope and quality outside of Spain, addressing nearly every aspect of culture in Spain, as well as a large part of Portugal and Latin America, into the 20th century. In addition to the museum, the Hispanic Society is home to a world-class research library with over 250,000 manuscripts, letters, and documents dating back to the 11th century.

After the visit, we will directly proceed to a nearby restaurant (to be announced) for a relaxed luncheon, dialogue, and networking.

Bring a friend or come solo and meet fellow members of UNA-NYC who share your passion for art, culture, and positive change. Let’s come together for another memorable Culture and Connections outing at the Hispanic Society of America.
