UNA-NYC Hosts Ambassador Series with H.E. Ibrahim Olabi
On the evening of February 18, the United Nations Association of New York hosted another edition of its Ambassador Series featuring H.E. Ibrahim Olabi, the newly appointed Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations. The in-person event, in partnership with the Columbia University Club Foundation and the Columbia University Club of New York, took place at One Grand Central Place and drew an engaged audience of UNA-NYC members and guests.
Ambassador Olabi spoke in conversation with Rick Grove, CEO of Rutter Associates LLC and President and Chairman of the Board of US Friends of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). Their discussion explored shifting dynamics in Syria’s international engagement, peacebuilding efforts, and the country’s reintroduction to global diplomatic forums following years of conflict. Olabi reflected on important highlights since his appointment in August 2025, including his first address to the UN Security Council and efforts to encourage reconstruction and cooperation.
The discussion was followed by a reception, offering attendees the opportunity to continue the dialogue in an informal setting. The event underscored UNA-NYC’s commitment to connecting its members with leading voices in diplomacy and global affairs.
