UNA-NYC's Successful Screening of “Sergio” Attracts Special Guests

Our presentation of "Sergio" on July 30 at the Tribeca Grand Hotel was a resounding success, with over 130 people attending the full-house event.

The film was an extraordinary biography of Sergio Vieira de Mello, who was the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative in Iraq and who died tragically in the UN Baghdad headquarters bombing in August 2003.

The post-screening discussion was led by Sergio's friend and colleague, Dr. Jamal Benomar, Chef de Cabinet of the President of the General Assembly.

An added surprise was the special, unannounced appearance of Samantha Power, whose book Chasing the Flame was the basis for the documentary. A special advisor to President Barack Obama, Ms. Power was able to depart Washington DC to attend the special screening and participate in the lively discussion which followed.
